Compass is an Item that reveals the location of the Witch Shops, Weapon Shops, Item Rooms, The Clinic, the Boss Key Room, the Boss Room, and Special Elevator Rooms. It functions essentially like a reduced Map, showing important locations but leaving the general layout of the floor vague, as well as not revealing Secret Rooms.
Strategy
Having a Compass allows gives the player much more information on each floor, making it possible to beeline to certain objectives and plan a more optimal route. This is especially helpful with low HP, as the player may want to avoid as much conflict as possible. It's especially useful for avoiding Teleport Rooms, which have situational uses but are almost always dead-ends.
Picking up a Map per floor or a Globe will render this item obsolete.
